The conference was successfully organized with the participation of Vice Minister Bui The Duy together with the leaders and members of VKIST.
President Kum Dongwha affirmed that 2021 was a year with many profound imprints for VKIST. Despite the influence of COVID-19 pandemic as well as the inadequate working conditions, VKIST achieved some outstanding accomplishments, especially in research activities. President Kum ascertained that this success would not have been possible without the tremendous effort of all VKIST members in spite of the hardships at this stage.
Being a new organization, VKIST are still in the process of developing the organizational and operational system. In 2021, VKIST have carried out a tremendous amount of work and achieved excellent outcomes. In terms of public relations, VKIST have finished and introduced the new Homepage and the Corporate Identity. VKIST also welcomed several visits from Institutes and Universities and successfully organized such big events as the monument-unveiling ceremony, MoU-signing ceremonies with strategic partners, including Nam Duoc Joint Stock Company, CVI Cosmetics Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company, Institute for Control Engineering and Automation- Hanoi University of Science and Technology. In terms of human resource management, VKIST has carried out 6 recruitment campaigns and simultaneously finished the procedure of shortlisting the pool candidates for leadership positions and appointment process of executive positions in the period of 2021-2026. Additionally, VKIST have made a great effort to refine the organizational structure, develop the internal regulations, accelerate the construction progress and push up the research equipment procurement.

At the conference, the researchers have presented a brief report on their research activities during 2021 and key plan in 2022.
In 2021, VKIST have achieved some outstanding accomplishments in R&D activities this year, such as implementing 14 MOST-level projects, 8 Institute-level projects, 5 joint projects in the cooperation with KIST, 4 joint projects between MOST (Vietnam) and MSIT (Korea). Specifically, VKIST has carried out those projects on the following topics: Study on S&T policy in Vietnam to promote cooperation between Vietnam and Korea; Research and development of the 3D alignment-based facial recognition technology to support online management of kindergarten; Joint research between VKIST and KIST on Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) and other parts for electric vehicles as well as the control and charging systems for electric cars; Identification of carotenoids in different ripening stages of Gac fruit collected in Vietnam and development of extraction, preservation and storage methods for the final product; Development of Magnetic Core/Shell Fe3O4@Au-based Lateral Flow Immunoassay (MagLFIA) strip for on-site detection of avian influenza viruses and for rapid simultaneously quantification of biomarkers CA 15-3 and CEA (potential biomarkers for breast cancer). In addition, VKIST have operated the work related to general affairs, human resource management, public relations, external affairs, construction and asset management following the current regulations despite the severe effect of COVID-19 pandemic.
Apart from the report on their remarkable research achievements in 2021, VKIST members, especially researchers, also gave lots of comments and proposed numerous ideas contributing to the development of VKIST in 2022.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy congratulated VKIST on the achievements in 2021. Vice Minister Duy also urged all members to continue devoting themselves to VKIST and proactively cooperate with related competent authorities to successfully complete the key tasks in 2022.

To conclude the conference, on behalf of VKIST members, President Kum Dongwha expressed his sincere gratitude for the support of MOST Leaders that enabled VKIST to accomplish all assigned tasks during the past period. In the coming time, VKIST would like to receive the continued attention and facilitation from MOST and related authorities so that VKIST could successfully achieve the goals in 2022.
