On October 22, 2021, Vietnam National University Scientist Links (VSL) together with the Management Board of Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park (HHTP) hosted a visit in HHTP, including Vietnam – Korea Institute of Science and Technology (VKIST).

On the side of VSL, there were Assoc. Prof. Tran Thi Thanh Tu, Vice Rector of Vietnam Japan University, Head of VSL Executive Committee; Assoc. Prof. Dao Thanh Truong, Vice Rector of University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vice Chairman of VSL Executive Committee; Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Tran Thuat, Principal Researcher, Center for Nano and Energy, VNU University of Science, Vice Chairman of VSL Executive Committee, and more than 50 scientists. On the side of the Management Board of HHTP, there were Mr. Nguyen Duc Long, Director of the Hi-tech Incubation and Training Center; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Huy, Acting Director of Science and Technology Department; Mr. Nguyen Trong Hieu, Deputy Director of Cooperation and Investment Department. On the side of VKIST, there were Ms. Hoang Hien Hau - Head of Administration Division and other Heads of Division and staff.

With the aim of promoting the research cooperation between VSL and HHTP, scientists were introduced to the whole HHTP as well as organizations and businesses operating in the HHTP. HHTP is expected to be an ecosystem facilitating the sustainable development of investors in R&D, hi-tech incubation and training as well as technology transfer and manufacturing in such fields as Biotechnology, Information Technology, Advanced Materials and Automation. HHTP is an ideal environment to attract high-quality human resources as well as domestic and international experts to live, work and develop.

In that ecosystem, VKIST is a newly established organization with the mission of becoming a leading multidisciplinary institute of applied research, developing modern technology pertaining to the needs of the industry and the sustainable economic development of Vietnam. On that basis, there would be lots of opportunities for further cooperation between VKIST and VNU. It has been 4 years since the day VNU first signed a MoU with VKIST on November 21, 2017 at the Kick-off ceremony of the VKIST Project. During the past time, VKIST and VNU have supported each other, especially in the supply and training of human resources for research, development and operation of VKIST. Currently, the number of VNU alumni working and collaborating with VKIST accounts for about 25% of the Institute's total staff.

At the meeting, the participants discussed several issues ranging from applied research to satisfy the market demand and product commercialization to networking with other universities and businesses. Both sides agreed to facilitate further cooperation in the future and jointly implement applied research. With its functions and duties, the HHTP Management Board would actively support the close cooperation between VNU and VSL as well as support both organizations with connecting to other businesses operating in HHTP. In the near future, VSL would consider opening a representative office at HHTP for scientists to network with potential counterparts there and organize periodic seminars. Besides, Mr. Tran Xuan Tu – Director of Information Technology Institute (ITI) at VNU proposed that VKIST and ITI jointly establish a cooperative laboratory to implement joint research activities in the future.

At the end of the meeting, VNU joined a laboratory tour around VKIST.
