RoK Foreign Minister Park Jin visits VKIST

On the afternoon of October 18, Foreign Minister Park Jin of the Republic of Korea visited Vietnam - Korea Institute of Science and Technology at Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park.

Attending the event, on the Vietnamese side, there were H.E.Mr. Le Xuan Dinh - Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and several Director General/Deputy Director General of Departments under MOST, representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with VKIST Leaders and staff. On the Korean side, there were H.E.Mr. Park Jin, the Korean Foreign Minister; H.E.Ms. Oh Young-Ju, Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Korea to Vietnam, Mr. Cho Han-Deog – Country Director of KOICA, Mr. Yeum Gi Hong – Global Strategy Department Manager at KIST and other delegates.

Overview of the event

Speaking at the event, on behalf of MOST Leaders, Deputy Minister Le Xuan Dinh expressed his pleasure to welcome Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin to visit VKIST, which is considered a symbol of great cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Korea. This event became more special when taking place in the time both countries are celebrating the 30th anniversary of Vietnam – Korea diplomatic relations. This was also the first official visit to Vietnam of Foreign Minister Park, which showed a strong commitment of both sides in promoting strategic cooperation between Vietnam and Korea, especially in the field of science and technology.

Deputy Minister Le Xuan Dinh also expressed his delight at the vigorous growth of bilateral ties over the last 30 years, stressing that the two sides should maintain high-level exchanges and meetings in flexible forms, step up effective and extensive cooperation in all fields, and develop their ties to a new level.

“The continued support of Governments together with Ministries and competent authorities of both sides in accelerating post-project and Phase 2 of the VKIST Project will be a solid premise for the sustainable development of VKIST as expected by two Governments. Considering the outstanding achievements of VKIST so far and the great support of both sides, I strongly believe that VKIST can develop further in the future and even create a miracle for the science and technology of Vietnam like what KIST has contributed to the revival of Korea's science and technology before”, said Deputy Minister Le Xuan Dinh.

In his speech, Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin highly appreciated the warm welcome of MOST Leaders and VKIST. He also expressed his pleasure to visit VKIST, which is a symbol of the great partnership between two Governments in science, technology and innovation.

“The VKIST Project will not be merely about building construction and equipment provision. I do hope that both sides will look for a follow-up project so that experience and advanced technology of Korea will be continued to transfer to VKIST. Vietnam is a special counterpart of Korea. The success of VKIST is indeed the pride of both Vietnam and Korea. I wish that VKIST will continue to play an important role in helping Vietnam become an industrialized country towards modernization and promoting economic growth. I will continue to support the continuous growth and development of VKIST”, affirmed Foreign Minister Park.

To mark his first visit to VKIST in the series of events when both countries are celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin has planted a tree at VKIST Headquarters. This is an important milestone of the great cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Korea, especially in the field of science and technology.
