At the meeting, Mr. Phuong Thien Thuong – Vice President of VKIST extended his warm welcome and sincere thanks to ETRI for their consideration and time spent on visiting and learning about research activities of VKIST.
Mr. Phuong Thien Thuong has delivered a brief presentation about overview of VKIST, in which he emphasized the orientation of VKIST is focusing on applied research pertaining to the industry. As a new organization, VKIST still need the support from both Governments for further development. Whereby, VKIST can catch up with other organizations in its field, including institutes, universities and enterprises, as well as widen its network and promote the cooperation with the industry to satisfy the market demand.

“ETRI is a government-funded non-profit research institute that is one of the leading research institutes in the field of wireless communication in Korea. ETRI also shares common ground with VKIST as an applied research institute, focusing on electronics and telecommunications. Therefore, the purpose of coming here today is to learn and seek the opportunity to cooperate in research and development sphere in the future. With the desire for long-term cooperation and connection, I hope that both sides can start from jointly implementing research activities. Hopefully in the future there will be more opportunities to cooperate on technology transfer and knowledge exchanging”, said Mr. Eun Soo Nam.

At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen The Hoang Anh - representative of Information Technology Division also shared some research orientations of the Division such as developing face recognition technology and three-dimensional face modeling from face images. These technologies are developed using the database obtained from the multi-angle synchronous imaging technology transferred directly to VKIST by Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). At KIST, research teams have succeeded in developing technologies to determine blood relationships, estimate the age of subjects, or render a person with different facial expressions.
