Promote ASEAN - Korea cooperation development: opportunities for innovation and industrial technology

In the framework of the ASEAN-Korea Summit Program, November 25, 2019 in Busan (South Korea), Minister of Science and Technology (MOST) Chu Ngoc Anh attended the Day Seminar. Development cooperation was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

This is an important event in the series of events to celebrate 30 years of establishing ASEAN-Korea diplomatic relations. President of VKIST also joined the event with Minister Chu Ngoc Anh.

Attending the Development Cooperation Day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Korea and the President of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and 6 Ministers from 6 ASEAN member countries: Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Myanmar and Philippines. and Vietnam. The seminar revolved around the topic of Development Cooperation towards peace and prosperity with people at the center.

At the seminar, Minister Chu Ngoc Anh informed about Vietnam's strategy towards regional prosperity in general and Vietnam in particular as well as positioning cooperation activities with KOICA in the future. The Minister especially emphasized the role of cooperation with KOICA (sending experts, exchanging experience, training in the field of science, technology and innovation, etc.) to promote prosperous development. between the two countries, including KOICA has supported Vietnam to implement the Vietnam-Korea Institute of Science and Technology Cooperation Project (VKIST) to improve Vietnam's industrial technology research capacity closely linked with the production capacity of enterprises. VKIST is considered as a pilot model in policy shift to promote innovation capacity.

According to Minister Chu Ngoc Anh, Vietnam is building a Socio-Economic Development Strategy for the period of 2021-2030, and science, technology and innovation are one of 10 important solutions. the center of Strategy with a number of specific tasks such as: Developing and improving the operational efficiency of the system of national innovation centers, start-up innovation and business-focused ecosystem center; Promote the development of new business models, digital economy, digital society. Implementing digital transformation in national governance, production, business and social organizations; Allow the implementation of a new policy mechanism, take risks for the deployment and application of new technologies, innovation, and build a new business model.

Through the seminar, Minister Chu Ngoc Anh proposed KOICA to strengthen cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam to carry out cooperation activities in the field of science and technology and innovation between the two countries as well as continue to support phase 2 of the ODA project for VKIST.
